ABSTRACT

The aim of this session is to investigate and analyze the newly developed remote sensing techniques and methodologies specifically developed for facing environmental challenges in marine domain, such as plastic detection and identification, coastal erosion, oil spill detection, ship pollution, etc.
A particular attention will be given to methodologies able to exploit ASI and ESA systems, such as Sentinel, Cosmo-SkyMed and the newly launched PRISMA. Moreover, the possibility of jointly exploit multiple sensors will be investigated.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS

Giampaolo Ferraioli was born in Lagonegro, Italy, in 1982. He received the BS and MS degrees and the Ph.D. degree in Telecommunication Engineering from the Università degli Studi di Napoli Parthenope in 2003, 2005 and 2008, respectively. He has been Visiting Scientist at Département TSI of Télécom ParisTech, Paris, France. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor with Università degli Studi di Napoli Parthenope. His main research interests deal with Statistical Signal and Image Processing, Radar Systems, Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry, Image Restoration and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. In 2009 he won the “IEEE 2009 Best European PhD Thesis in Remote Sensing” prize, sponsored by IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society. He serves as Associate Editor of IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters and of MDPI Remote Sensing. He is member of the Technical Liaison Committee for IEEE Transactions on Computational Imaging. He is an IEEE Senior Member form 2017.

Hossein Aghababaei received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in remote sensing in 2011 and 2017. From 2017 to 2019 he was employed as a research fellow at the Department of Engineering, Università di Napoli, Parthenope, Napoli, Italy. Currently, he is Assistant Professor with the University of Twente, Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), Department of Earth Observation Science (EOS), Enschede, the Netherlands. His main research interests are in SAR tomographic, target scattering decomposition and polarimetric SAR processing for multidimensional geophysical information extraction.

Ferdinando Nunziata was born in Naples, Italy, in 1982.
He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees (summa cum laude) in telecommunications engineering and the Ph.D. degree in electromagnetic fields from the Università degli Studi di Napoli Parthenope, Naples, in 2003, 2005, and 2008, respectively.
Since 2018, he has been an Associate Professor of electromagnetic fields with the Università degli Studi di Napoli Parthenope. He has authored or coauthored about 80 peer-reviewed journal papers. Since 2014 he is IEEE Senior Member.
His research interests include applied electromagnetics, especially electromagnetic modeling, single and multipolarization sea surface scattering, radar polarimetry, synthetic-aperture radar sea oil slick and metallic target monitoring, spatial resolution enhancement techniques, and Global Navigation Satellite System—Reflectometry.
